We are a freshwater-only store. No corals, no saltwater livestock, no reef section taking up half the floor — which means the tanks, the staff knowledge and the buying all point in one direction. New shipments land most weeks and what is on the floor changes with them.
Freshwater only, and why that matters to you
A general pet store carries a little of everything and knows a little about everything. Because we only do freshwater, we condition what comes in, we know which suppliers produce fish that travel well, and the person you talk to on the floor has kept the fish you are asking about. That is the argument for buying livestock from a specialty store rather than a chain.
Stocking a tank that works
Most stocking problems are not aggression, they are mismatch. Schooling fish kept in threes behave badly because they are stressed, not because they are mean — most tetras, rasboras and danios need six or more before they settle and show real color. Fish sold at an inch often finish at six. And two species that are each peaceful can still be wrong together if one wants fast current and cool water and the other wants neither.
Tell us the tank dimensions, what is already in it, and what your water reads, and we will tell you honestly whether the fish you came in for is a good idea. Sometimes it is not.
Before you buy
Ask how long the fish has been in the building. One that landed yesterday may be perfectly healthy but has had a harder week than one settled for ten days. Ask what it has been eating — a fish already taking prepared food is a much easier start than one that has only ever eaten live. And bring a water sample if you have not tested recently.
