The Carnival Yellow Vampire Crab is a small semi terrestrial freshwater crab known for its bright yellow coloration and active behavior. This unique crab is ideal for paludariums and aquariums with both land and water areas.
Origin and Background
Carnival Yellow Vampire Crabs belong to the Geosesarma genus and originate from Southeast Asia. They inhabit humid forest floors near streams and require high humidity and access to shallow water.
Appearance and Size
Adults typically reach 1 to 1.5 inches in body size. They have a bright yellow shell and contrasting eyes, making them highly decorative in planted tanks or paludariums.
Temperament and Behavior
These crabs are generally peaceful but can be territorial. They are shy and most active during the evening and night. Best kept in small groups with one male and multiple females to reduce aggression.
Tank Setup and Environment
Require a paludarium setup with about seventy percent land area and thirty percent shallow water. Land areas can be created with soil sand or coco fiber and decorated with rocks and plants. Freshwater should be shallow and easily accessible. High humidity is essential. Temperature should be kept between 72 and 82 degrees Fahrenheit. pH range 6.5 to 7.5.
Diet and Feeding
Omnivore feeding on sinking pellets algae wafers small insects and vegetable matter. Leaf litter can also be provided for grazing and shelter.
Tank Mates
Best kept in species only setups. Avoid housing with fish or larger invertebrates that may be eaten.
