Norman’s Lampeye Killifish (Poropanchax normani)

Norman’s Lampeye Killifish (Poropanchax normani) – Subtle Elegance with a Captivating Glow

Add a touch of shimmer and activity to your aquarium with Norman’s Lampeye Killifish. These delicate schooling fish are named for the bright, reflective "lampeye" glow above each eye, creating a striking contrast against their translucent bodies—especially under subdued lighting.

Key Features:

  • Distinctive iridescent “lampeye” that catches the light beautifully

  • Peaceful and active – ideal for nano tanks and gentle community setups

  • Best kept in groups of 6 or more for natural schooling behavior and comfort

  • Excellent choice for planted or blackwater tanks with soft lighting

  • Pairs well with shrimp and other small, non-aggressive tankmates

Care Tips:
Poropanchax normani thrives in soft, slightly acidic to neutral water with stable conditions and gentle flow. A well-planted tank with floating plants helps mimic their natural habitat and enhances their shimmering eye glow. Feed a variety of high-quality micro foods, such as baby brine shrimp, daphnia, and fine flakes or pellets.

Graceful and glowing, Norman’s Lampeye Killifish are a subtle yet stunning addition to aquascapes and nano communities alike.

The school I purchased arrived alive, with one individual having some fin damage that healed in about two days. They came in tiny though, probably between .3 and .5 inches long. It's good to know that they're young fish but I'll have to grow them out some before moving them to my main tank. My fish are still currently in quarantine.
