The Strawberry Rasbora (Boraras merah) is a small, vibrant freshwater fish admired for its striking red coloration and active schooling behavior. Native to the peat swamps and slow-moving waters of Borneo, Indonesia, and Malaysia, these tiny fish are ideal for planted aquariums and nano tanks due to their diminutive size, usually growing only up to 1 inch in length.
Strawberry Rasboras are peaceful, social fish that thrive in groups of at least 6-8 individuals. Schooling helps them feel secure and brings out their natural behavior, resulting in a lively and colorful display in the aquarium. They prefer densely planted tanks with plenty of hiding spots, such as moss, small plants, and driftwood, which mimic their natural habitat and provide shelter.
Water quality is important for Strawberry Rasboras. They prefer soft, slightly acidic water with stable parameters, and they are sensitive to sudden changes in water chemistry. Regular water changes and gentle filtration help maintain a healthy environment and enhance their vibrant red coloration.
These fish are omnivorous and have a varied diet in captivity. They readily accept high-quality micro pellets, flakes, and frozen or live foods such as daphnia, microworms, and brine shrimp. Feeding small amounts multiple times a day helps support their energy and bright coloration.
Strawberry Rasboras are ideal for community tanks with other small, peaceful fish. Their calm temperament, striking appearance, and active schooling make them a favorite choice for aquarists looking to add a splash of color to planted or nano aquariums. With proper care, these tiny yet stunning fish can live up to 4-5 years, providing long-lasting beauty and charm to any freshwater setup.
