Silver Flying Fox

The Silver Flying Fox (Epalzeorhynchos kalopterus) is a peaceful and active freshwater fish known for its striking silver body, black horizontal stripes, and flowing fins. Native to fast-flowing rivers in Southeast Asia, this fish is a popular choice for community aquariums due to its algae-eating habits and elegant appearance.

Silver Flying Foxes are excellent algae controllers, grazing on soft algae, biofilm, and leftover food in the aquarium. They are hardy and adaptable, making them suitable for both beginner and experienced aquarists. These fish are social but can be territorial with their own species if housed in small numbers, so keeping them in groups of at least three can help distribute any aggression.

They thrive in well-planted tanks with hiding spots, rocks, and driftwood. Moderate water flow is appreciated, mimicking their natural river habitat. Their long, slender body and flowing fins allow them to glide gracefully through the water, creating a beautiful display in community aquariums.

Diet: Omnivorous – will eat algae, vegetable-based foods, flakes, pellets, and occasional protein-rich treats.

Basic Care Guidelines:

* Tank size: Minimum 30 gallons
* Temperature: 72°F – 79°F
* pH: 6.5 – 7.5
* Temperament: Peaceful but territorial with same species
* Diet: Omnivorous – algae, flakes, pellets, vegetables, protein-rich foods

The Silver Flying Fox is an elegant and useful addition to freshwater aquariums. Its striking coloration, active behavior, and algae-eating habits make it both visually appealing and practical, helping to maintain a cleaner tank while enhancing the overall beauty of your aquarium.
