Pygmy Corydoras
The Pygmy Corydoras is a charming and tiny bottom-dwelling fish loved by aquarists for its peaceful nature and playful behavior. With its silver body, dark horizontal stripe, and small size, this species brings life and activity to any freshwater aquarium. Despite their small stature, Pygmy Corydoras are full of energy and often swim in the middle levels of the tank as well as along the substrate, making them unique among cory catfish.
Native to the slow-moving rivers and tributaries of South America, particularly in Brazil, the Pygmy Corydoras enjoys soft, slightly acidic water and planted aquariums with plenty of hiding spots. They thrive best in groups of six or more, as they are social fish that find comfort and confidence in numbers. A well-decorated tank with fine sand or smooth gravel substrate is ideal to protect their delicate barbels.
These fish are peaceful and make excellent tank mates for small community fish such as tetras, rasboras, and dwarf shrimp. Their gentle nature and active personality make them a great choice for nano or planted tanks.
Feeding the Pygmy Corydoras is easy. They are omnivores that enjoy a variety of foods, including sinking pellets, flakes, and frozen or live options like bloodworms, daphnia, and brine shrimp. Regular feedings of high-quality sinking foods will keep them healthy and active.
