Ember Tetra
The Ember Tetra, also known as Hyphessobrycon amandae, is a small, vibrant freshwater fish that is highly popular for nano and community aquariums. Its striking orange-red coloration and peaceful nature make it a beautiful and lively addition to any tank.
Ember Tetras are schooling fish and should be kept in groups of at least six or more. They are very social and feel most comfortable when swimming together, which also enhances their natural color and activity. Their peaceful temperament makes them suitable for community tanks with other small, non-aggressive species.
These fish thrive in well-planted aquariums with open swimming areas. Plants, driftwood, and gentle lighting help replicate their natural habitat and provide hiding spots, reducing stress. They prefer soft, slightly acidic to neutral water with a pH of 5.5–7.0 and a temperature range of 73°F–84°F. Stable water conditions are important for maintaining their health and vibrant color.
Ember Tetras are omnivorous and enjoy a varied diet. High-quality flake food or micro pellets should be supplemented with live or frozen foods such as daphnia, brine shrimp, or microworms. A varied diet encourages active behavior and brings out their bright orange coloration.
Breeding Ember Tetras can be done in a separate breeding tank with fine-leaved plants or spawning mops. They are egg scatterers, and adults should be removed after spawning to prevent them from eating the eggs. Fry grow slowly and require tiny foods such as infusoria or newly hatched brine shrimp.
Overall, Ember Tetras are peaceful, colorful, and easy to care for, making them perfect for both beginner and experienced aquarists. Their small size, bright coloration, and schooling behavior make them a lively and attractive addition to any freshwater aquarium.
