The Albino Cherry Barb (Puntius titteya) is a stunning, tank-bred color morph of the classic Cherry Barb. Known for their peaceful nature and hardiness, these fish are a top choice for aquarists of all skill levels. Unlike the deep red of the wild-type variety, the Albino Cherry Barb displays a beautiful creamy-pink to peach coloration with distinct red eyes. When kept in a planted aquarium, their subtle glowing hues provide a soft, elegant contrast against green foliage and dark substrates.

As a schooling species, they are most active and confident when kept in groups. They are an excellent addition to peaceful community tanks, bringing constant movement and activity to the middle and bottom levels of the aquarium.

Quick Stats

  • Scientific Name: Puntius titteya (Albino morph)

  • Care Level: Easy / Beginner

  • Temperament: Peaceful

  • Adult Size: 1.5 – 2 inches (5 cm)

  • Lifespan: 4 – 6 years

  • Minimum Tank Size: 10–20 Gallons

  • Diet: Omnivore

Habitat & Care

  • Water Parameters: These barbs are highly adaptable but thrive best in temperatures between 73°F – 81°F (23°C – 27°C) with a pH of 6.0 – 8.0.

  • Tank Setup: A planted tank is ideal. The Albino Cherry Barb feels most secure with plenty of hiding spots among plants, driftwood, or rockwork. A darker substrate can help their pale pink colors "pop" visually.

  • Schooling Behavior: These are social fish. It is highly recommended to keep them in schools of 6 or more. A larger group reduces stress and encourages males to display their best coloration.

Diet & Feeding

The Albino Cherry Barb is not a picky eater. For optimal health and color, feed a varied diet consisting of:

  • High-quality flake or pellet food (staple diet)

  • Live or frozen foods such as Brine Shrimp, Bloodworms, and Daphnia

  • Occasional vegetable matter (blanched spinach or zucchini)

Tank Mates

Due to their peaceful demeanor, they make excellent neighbors for other community fish. Great tank mates include:

  • Tetras (Neon, Cardinal, Rummy Nose)

  • Rasboras (Harlequin, Chili)

  • Corydoras Catfish

  • Livebearers (Guppies, Mollies)

  • Note: Avoid keeping them with large, aggressive species that may view them as food.
