Gold Rabbit Snail - Tylomelania gemmifera

The Gold Rabbit Snail is a fascinating and unique freshwater snail that adds both beauty and character to an aquarium. Native to the lakes of Sulawesi, Indonesia, this species is easily identified by its long, spiraled dark brown shell and its bright golden-yellow body, which gives it a striking contrast.

Gold Rabbit Snails are peaceful grazers that help clean the aquarium by eating leftover food and algae. Unlike many snail species, they reproduce slowly, making them a great addition without the risk of overpopulation. Their curious behavior and habit of slowly gliding across the tank make them enjoyable to watch.

They prefer aquariums with soft substrate, as they like to burrow, and require stable, clean water conditions to thrive. A calcium-rich diet is important to maintain strong shell growth.

Scientific Name: Tylomelania gemmifera
Common Name: Gold Rabbit Snail
Temperament: Peaceful
Adult Size: 3–5 inches
Diet: Omnivore (algae wafers, sinking pellets, blanched vegetables, leftover food)
Water Conditions: 75–84°F, pH 7.2–8.2
Compatibility: Safe with peaceful fish, shrimp, and live plants

The Gold Rabbit Snail is a hardy and striking invertebrate, perfect for aquarists looking to add something exotic, functional, and eye-catching to their aquarium.

Rabbit snails are uncommon in the aquarium hobby, and are named for the way they look and move. Unlike other snails, they move by “hopping”--you can see them pulling their shells around as they hop! They also burrow, which is beneficial for many tanks as they are able to release gasses that may otherwise be trapped underneath the substrate or gravel. They are also known as the Sulawesi Snail.

Max size: 2.4"

Minimum tank size: 20 gallons

    Beautiful snails

I typically am skeptical of ordering a living creature online, but Petzone came through. The first order came from FEDEX at the end of the day. But the second order was in the AM which was much better.

Snail was well packaged and delivered in a timely manner; however, it's shell was scuffed badly. I've had it for 24 hrs, and very little movement. I'll me surprised if it makes it.
