Delhezi Bichir (Polypterus delhezi)
Add a touch of prehistoric wonder to your aquarium with the striking Delhezi Bichir, also known as the Armored Bichir or Barred Bichir. Native to the Congo River Basin in Central Africa, this unique and ancient-looking fish boasts a distinctive pattern of dark vertical bands across a gray-green body, giving it an unmistakable and almost dinosaur-like appearance.
With its powerful body, pronounced dorsal finlets, and vigilant gaze, the Delhezi Bichir makes a captivating centerpiece for any large freshwater setup. This nocturnal predator is both hardy and adaptable, making it a popular choice for experienced aquarists looking to add a more exotic species to their collection.
Key Features:
-
Striking barred pattern with armored, scale-like skin
-
Primitive fish with a lineage dating back millions of years
-
Breathes atmospheric air via a modified swim bladder
-
Best kept in large, well-covered aquariums with soft substrate and hiding spots

Care Notes:
Delhezi Bichirs thrive in low to moderate lighting with subdued tank décor that mimics their natural riverbed environment. They prefer meaty foods such as shrimp, worms, or carnivore pellets. Ensure the tank is escape-proof, as bichirs are notorious for slipping through openings.
Bring home one of nature’s living fossils and elevate your aquarium with the mesmerizing Delhezi Bichir.
Size is about 2.5-3 inches.
Also known as Armored Bichir, Barred or Banded Bichir.

Delhezi bichir
Fish arrived packaged beautifully and secure and was active, a little skinny and wish he had some better markings but that's the gamble you take when ordering online but other than that he was overall healthy and happy. Very pleased. ?

Bichir
Fish arrived healthy, not a fan of not being able to see fish before purchase. Delhezi had barely any color, only had black spots near tail was hoping for a much prettier fish..

Shipping USPS vs FedEx
Live arrival from San Diego to Cincinnati priority Mail I save $25 but pet zone will not guarantee live arrival you have to waive that!
this is my fourth time using priority mail with 100% success from three other companies across the US I'm a little prejudice to the post office I'm a 30-year retired postal worker anyway pet zone did their job the post office did their job and I save 25 bucks think about it next time you're shipping fish -
Delhezi Bichir
Ordered my delhezi online to be shipped and actually got it hand delivered the next day, great service! The bichir itself is in good health and acclimated nicely to its new home. Only knock I have which isnt really a big deal but just something i wished for was for the bichir to be a little more developed size-wise. Bichir came at around 3ish inches. I own two other bichirs that i was able to get at around 4-5 inches straight out the store. No big deal though, just means more growth to marvel at!

Delhezi Bichir
the bichirs came alive and active, however one of them is missing a pectoral fin. I know the bichir can regenerate their fins so im not worried, but i feel like its something that would help you to know.

Nice Bichirs
I bought this and an endlerichi? at the same time as a rope fish. Holy moly the trio is inseparable. They lay all over each other and are not at all shy. Very well socialized to other fish and humans. I love how smart they are. Every time the arowana comes near this little guy flexes his spines like try it big guy. Confident, healthy and active. Mine eat live meal worms and red worms.
