Freshwater Inverts For Community Fish Tanks

Freshwater Inverts For Aquariums

Freshwater inverts are unique and odd looking in comparison to fish. Not only do they complement a tank well but will capture to attention of anyone passing by the aquarium.

Though not all inverts are compatible with community aquariums, there are some peaceful species that'll thrive and add to the fauna of a nicely set up tank.

Crabs

Though many crabs are aggressive (even with each other), some are smaller in size and are fully aquatic and compatible with community fish.

Our favorite is the Pom Pom Crab. They have little 'mittens' on the claws, resembling cheerleader pom-poms. When they move their claws up and down, it does look like they're cheering on!

Shrimp

Shrimp have been around in the aquatic hobby for quite some time now. Our personal favorite is the Bamboo 'Wood' Shrimp as they are larger and more eye-catchy. Despite their appearance, they are peaceful and assist in keeping the water column clean!

Snails

Snails are commonly seen as pests as they reproduce super quickly but there are many species that not only look cool and clean algae but don't produce on a mass level where they overtake an aquarium.

Our favorite snail is the Nerite. They are readily available with different species having their own unique shape and patterns.
